Dog waits for his rabies vaccination in Kenya

Dear Susanne,
Our Better lives for dogs campaign aims to stop the cruel, unnecessary culling of nearly 10 million dogs each year, primarily in misguided attempts to tackle rabies.
Dogs should be every community’s friend and protector. With the help of animal lovers like you, we want to make better lives for 50 million dogs by 2020.
Needless killing
We estimate that 18 dogs around the world are culled every minute. Inhumane culling methods include gassing, poisoning and dragging them through the streets.
It’s understandable that communities are fearful of rabies, especially where there are lots of stray animals  up to 99% of human rabies cases are transmitted through dogs. But we know mass dog killing isn’t a sustainable answer – vaccination and humane dog population management is.
A long-term solution
We’ve already administered 1 million vaccinations against rabies to dogs across Africa and Asia, but we need to do even more for long-term change.
Standing up for dogs
With your help, we want to make Better lives for dogs by;
  • vaccinating a further 1 million dogs
  • lobbying governments for humane dog population management
  • educating communities for more positive attitudes towards dogs.
Please watch our video now to find more about Better lives for dogs, and how you can help.

Thank you again for all your support.
